In the days prior to the exchange, each of the teams learned about the situation of refugees and migration in our respective countries. However, in spite of all the information we were able to gather and the reflections we arrived at in our round tables, we lacked a couple of things to finish understanding this phenomenon and why it is so controversial.
That being the case, the afternoon we spent in Madrid we used it to meet with our friends from Amnesty International - Madrid who explained to us what is happening not only in Europe but all over the world.
We started with the basics: learning what the differences are between a migrant and a refugee, knowing the causes that make many people leave their homes risking their lives in the hope of a better quality of life or sometimes just safety for their families or themselves.
We understood that this is a crisis that needs everyone's help, that we must be above all empathetic and then show solidarity with these people and above all that we must act so that the governments of our countries assume an active role at this moment in history and do not look the other way.
And it all starts with actions like this: becoming aware of what is happening and then getting down to business.
